An infinite amount of stuff that has nothing to do with pressing the shutter button goes into the
making of a picture. Truth be told, in photography, you will find yourself involved with so many
things, before and after the click of the shutter, that it often feels like the pictures themselves are
the smallest part of the process. You will spend countless hours and a lot of hard-earned money
to make the very best picture—or several hundred of them—in search of the perfect one.
Key parts of the before and after processes often are relegated to the unsexy bin of education yet
are the most important. For example, if you take 100 pictures just to get one perfect shot, what
are you supposed to do with the other 99? If you do this step over and over, how do you make
room for all of your future pictures on your relatively small computer? Even more pressing, how
can you take the perfect moment that you captured and make sure that every bit of oomph is
wrung out of that file and that you put your best foot forward?

The goal is to make this easy enough to do quickly, and get you back out there making pictures.
About Classroom in a Book
Adobe Photoshop CC and Lightroom CC for Photographers Classroom in a Book® is part of the
official training series for Adobe graphics and publishing software, developed with the support
of Adobe product experts. The lessons are designed to let you learn at your own pace. If you’re
new to Lightroom or Photoshop, you’ll learn the fundamental concepts and features you’ll need
in order to work with these programs together. If you’ve been using Lightroom or Photoshop for
a while, you’ll find that Classroom in a Book teaches advanced features too, focusing on tips and
techniques for using the latest versions of the applications together.
Although each lesson provides step-by-step instructions for creating a specific project, there’s
plenty of room for exploration and experimentation. Each lesson concludes with review
questions highlighting important concepts from that lesson. You can follow the book from start
to finish, or do only the lessons that match your interests and needs. That said, the “Getting
Started” material is a must read
Windows vs. macOS instructions
In most cases, Lightroom and Photoshop perform identically in both Windows and macOS.
Minor differences exist between the two versions, mostly due to platform-specific issues out of
the control of the programs. Most of these are simply differences in keyboard shortcuts, how
dialog boxes are displayed, and how buttons are named. In most cases, screen shots were made
in the macOS versions of Lightroom and Photoshop and may appear different from your own screen.
Where specific commands differ, they are noted within the text. Windows commands are listed
first, followed by the macOS equivalent, such as Ctrl+C/Command+C.
